Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy for Mind, Behaviour & Emotional Wellbeing

A structured therapeutic method using focused attention and guided relaxation. It is used as part of an individualized psychological plan — never as a stand-alone promise.

A calm, private consultation session in progress

What hypnotherapy actually is

Hypnotherapy uses guided relaxation and focused attention to help you engage with therapeutic suggestions more readily. You are not asleep and you are not under anyone's control — you stay aware, you can speak, and you can end the session whenever you wish.

It is one tool among several. Whether it is used, and how, depends entirely on your assessment. For some concerns another approach is clinically more appropriate, and that is what will be recommended.

No single therapeutic approach is universally effective. Hypnotherapy is not offered as a cure, and outcomes vary according to the individual, the concern and the treatment plan.

Possible applications

Where hypnotherapy may be considered

Applications are assessed individually. This list describes areas where hypnotherapeutic techniques are commonly used as part of a wider plan.

  • Stress reduction

Lowering baseline tension and building a reliable way to settle the body.

  • Relaxation

Guided relaxation as a skill you can use between sessions, not only in the room.

  • Sleep support

Wind-down work for racing thoughts and difficulty falling asleep.

  • Habit change

Support for habits you have already decided to change, alongside behavioural work.

  • Confidence building

Mental rehearsal for situations that usually feel intimidating.

  • Performance anxiety

Exams, presentations, interviews and performance settings.

  • Fear & phobia support

Used with graded exposure where assessment indicates it is appropriate.

  • Emotional regulation

Noticing, naming and settling intense emotional states.

  • Mind–body relaxation

Reducing the physical residue of long-term stress.

The process

How a hypnotherapy course is structured

  1. 01

    Assessment first

A clinical conversation about your concerns, history and goals. Hypnotherapy is only offered when assessment indicates it is suitable.

  2. 02

    Explanation & consent

You are told exactly what the session involves. You remain aware and in control throughout, and can stop at any point.

  3. 03

    Guided sessions

Focused relaxation and suggestion work aligned to the goals you agreed, integrated with your wider therapy plan.

  4. 04

    Between-session practice

Where appropriate, a recording or practice routine is provided so the work continues between appointments.
